CDS (Clinical Decision Support) in the Start Menu

The CDS (Clinical Decision Support) Menu is the area of Accuro where you manage User and Global CDS, access e-Therapeutics, Mediscape.com, MD Consult, Guidance (JOURNALS), Management (NCBI-CUBBY) and Pharmanet. The external URLs launched are embedded Accuro browser while sending parameters desired by the 3rd party. If asked, the info is sent via POST.

Note: Some of the menu options in this section may be different depending upon the province your office is in.

How to Use CDS (Clinical Decision Support)

User CDS (Clinical Decision Support) is specific to the user logged in to Accuro
Global CDS creates an entry for all users in Accuro on that database.

  1. In Accuro, click the Menu button, select CDS and then either Manage User CDS or Manage Global CDS.
This section focused on User CDS as it will allow you to pass login credentials to a site which is one of the more desirable parameters.
  2. Click Add (+) button to add a new entry.
  3. Enter a name for the entry
  4. Enter the URL
Note: In order for parameters to be passed, the URL must be HTTPS.  If not, the machine’s default browser will be launched (rather than an embedded browser) and no parameters will be passed.
  5. If the site requires a login, check the checkbox and enter the login.
  6. Click the Add (+) button to add a new Parameter.
  7. Parameter will have to be exactly what the third party URL is expecting and will need to be specified by them.
  8. Value has a dropdown list available for common tags in Accuro.  You can still enter free text if you know the Accuro tag value and it is not on the dropdown list.
  9. If you have entered a username and password, you MUST also add username and password parameters to have them sent.
  10. To take advantage of the tags for patient_id and user_id, the 3rd party must also be hooked into Accuro's API to cross reference the IDs that are being passed.
  11. Other elements that could be of use to 3rd party vendors can be added manually via free text and possibly added to the tag dropdown list if proven popular.  An example would be if the 3rd party needed a unique ID for the logged in user across all databases.  This would require the UUID that is stored in user demographics and would have to be manually copied and pasted.  The tag will send the unique user ID from the current database (eg. 24).
